Having looked at I cannot determine the difference between two cards I've got. According to the dimensions they are both 5mm cards - both of them are wireless lan cards but they have different thickness lugs on the lefthand side (as you're pushing the card away from you into the slot). A friend's old Dell (can't remember the model) will only take the one with the smaller lug.

Anyone got any info before I turn on the power and blow something up? [wink]

Are you sure you are not looking at the antenna bulge on the cards? This is on the non-connector side of the card and they do vary in thickeness or bulginess.

Hi Bill, thanks for the reply. No, I'm referring to the long sides of the card, which I could liken to drawer runners. The "lug" or "shoulder" I'm looking at is on the side of the card nearest the 68-pin socket. If you hold the card horizontally the right way up so the 68-pin socket holes are facing you, the initial lefthand "runner" presents a symetrically placed groove running along the side of the card for 10mm. The righthand egde offers only a "lug" or "shoulder" also 10mm in length, but this varies in height in the two WiFi cards I have. One is about 1mm high, the other about 2mm. I have seen several other 11Mbps WiFi cards with the 1mm lug, but I'm guessing that maybe the later cards are 2mm height...?

Can't see any reference to this minor but significant difference in the PCMCIA standards.
