PCL XL errors laser jet 2200

We have a LJ2200 on a netware network using a 170x jet direct box. Recently the users are having many problems printing. Some users have a PCL6 driver and they are getting PCL XL error subsystem kernal, operator 0x25 postion 78 for eg when printing from word and other things although excel and groupwise prints fine. Occasionally it prints one page ok and then either prints nothing or this error at the next attempt. Other users have a LJ 4 driver and they are getting a similar error when they try and print from access. I tried swapping one of the machines with the PCL6 driver to a PCL5e driver but still got the message. We are also getting PCLxl error subsystem image error missing data operator read image postition 19 when printing from another program. If anyone can help I would be v grateful

The 170 is a fairly old jetdirect box. You may want to try the JetDirect card that goes in the printer itself. But they're a few hundred $$$.

Try these things first:

1) See if there is a firmware update for teh 170.
2) Try a different printer cable; and make sure it's bi-directional.

I run the same JetDirect box on a 2200 at home with no issues to speak of.
