I have written a program to create a pcl documents with an automatic overlay to provide letter head and page footer.

These documents print fine on an HP4100 and on a minolta copier which is also a network printer.

However on an HP4050 printer and a near new Brother laser printer the images in the overlay do not print properly. The image area is the correct size but the image within it is many times too big (as if the dpi is too small) and appears to be in reverse video.

Does anybody have any idea what causes this?

For the size problem, perhaps your PCL is missing certain sequences which set the printer to a 'known' state, so some attributes are taken from the defaults set on the printer itself.

Reverse video problem would possibly indicate that something within your PCL raster image is incorrect?

But without having a copy of your print stream to examine/analyse, it is very difficult to guess in any more detail what could be causing the reported symptoms.

Post a copy of your generated PCL stream here as an attachment; it may also help if you post scans of the correct and incorrect prints.

With the 4050 PCL6 is a PROBLEM when we had opurs PCL5e worked fine. Th 4050 was a real problem child with word.

Never give up never give in.

There are no short cuts to anything worth doing :)
