I have recently reinstalled Windows 98, after formatting my Hard drive. Now when I try to change the screen size and the color palette, it wont let me. I am unable to get any larger than 640x480 resolution or anything more than 16 colors. Do I need a new driver? Any help?
Many Thanks
(at least a 1000)

The reinstall set the resolution back to IBM basic VGA.
You need a driver install for your graphics adapter.
You might be able to get better with the W98 builtin super VGA, but the right one is better.

Many thanks EdFair,

I have an old Dell Dimension XPS system, a Phillips monitor (Brilliance 151 AX) and run Windows 98. How do I find out what Adapter is the right one?

Thanks again

You need to determine what video card or component your system uses. The monitor type does not matter.

By using the exact model or serial number, go out to Dell's site. There should be a driver out there. If you added the video component after you bought the system, then Dell's site won't be of much use. You'll need to know what you have to go any further...

You could go to a DOS window, run debug, display the area between c000 and cfff and probably show what video bios is installed. Just a matter i\of interpretation from there.
