I have a need to send PCF commands from an MQ Application running on z/OS to an WIN NT Queue Manager. The PCF manual is not at all helpful and I keep on getting a reason code x'844'. I am sure that it is because the PCF message format I am creating is invalid but I can't for the life of me see why or what it shoudl really look like.

Has anyone actually got z/OS to issue a PCF command to a remote queue manager? If so, how on earth did they set up the PCF message?

Hmmm - since MQ on z/OS doesn't support PCF, I think you'd have to hand roll each message yourself - and that means making sure that you've set up the correct values for CCSID, Encoding etc. as well as making sure that all binary values use the correct 'endian-ness' for the Intel platform, which is different to S/390.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Paul,

Thanks for the input. My assumption (and we all know what they do) is that z/OS doesn't support PCF command meant that it doesn't accept PCF commands to control it, but that it is quite capable of issuing PCF commands to other platforms.....otherwise why have copybooks and assembler macros to map them? I 'think' I have set the encoding and coded character set up correctly (as per the PCF manual) but the return code would seem to suggest otherwise. :(

The PCF command is actually getting to the remote Qmgr and I am getting the reply back, but the reply is totally worthless and the reason code is '844'. I am sure you are correct about it being down to the encoding and coded character set but I can't for the life of me fathom why. I thought I had followed the PCF manual's guidelines...but the manual sucks when it comes to showing actual examples.
