Hi all.

I've been having problems for months with PCAnywhere on my XP pro PC (and so have colleagues of mine). I used to use Windows 2k and pcanywhere 10 - all worked fine. Then I upgraded to XP and installed pcanywhere 10.

I can still connect to my various servers but it takes me a lot longer. I have to open the connection and then click Cancel as it stays on Waiting forever. I then try again to connect. I can connect on the first attempt sometimes but it can take upto 20+ attempts for me to connect at other times.

As I've said - a few colleagues of mine have had the exact same problem - all on xp pro pc's. Some have reverted back to 2k and the problem goes away.

I have tried installing pca version 9.2 and also version 10.5 but am still having the same results.

There must be somebody out there who has had this problem before and knows why it is happening?

Regards..

Karl

Hi,
What version of PC anywhere you using?
PC anywhere 10.5 is apparently more compatable with XP.
Also have you thought of using the inbuilt remote desktop in XP to connect to other machines(if compatable)
I've found it really fast and reliable.

Well the company have invested in pcanywhere and it has been installed on all the servers (NT/2000) so using another remote client is out of the question really. As I said in my earlier post I have tried using version 10, 9.2, and 10.5 all get the same results.

It is pretty poor if symantec have not fixed this issue but i can't seem to find any reference to a fix.

I currently have version 10.5 installed and have installed the 3 patches available to no avail

Okay,
do you have any firewalls running and are your XP firewalls running?

Yes we have a firewall and no the xp firewall is not enabled.

Okay,
I know your going to say "It used to work fine on 2000 so why do I have to chance anything" but.....I think that the issue may be related to some setting on the firewall not allowing the connection.

PC Anywhere 10 was never officially meant for XP. It can work, but it will likely interfere with a ton of processes including "fast-user switching".

I highly recommend you upgrade to version 11 to solve your problems in XP.
