I am trying to connect my computer at home to my office computer throught DSL line. I have PCanywhere 10.5 at home and an older version PCanywhere32 8.0 at the office. At present, I cannot connect the 2. I have input IP addresses at both ends trying both host and remote on both ends to no success. After reading some information I think the problem is port related. The problem is: how do I change the port settings for the system on 8.0 and how do I know what port settings to use? Once I establish the port settings to use, do I need to do it on both server and workstation at the office or just one of them?
We presently use PCanywhere on the office computer to connect with software support from another company and it works like this: The office server is on Windows NT 4.0 and my computer at the office is on Windows Workstation. PCanywhere is set up on the Server, and I click on network, then on the workstation I click "Be a Host" and "call remote" when I want to connect to my support people. The internet has to be open and I have to click on a registry profile in order for this to work 1st. This works fine, however, I have to be at the office to set it up. For working at home, I want to be able to leave the computer at the office up and running ready for me to connect at home without the fear of others getting into my computer at work. I'm not sure what firewall we are using at the office, but at home it is Norton Securities 8.025. At the office we use Inoculate Antivirus protection.

Port information

You need to open ports on your corporate firewall, use a VPN to connect to the corporate network or dial into your network.

Talk with your firewall administrator.

8.0 and 10.0 use the same ports.

Problem is,I am the administrator (we have a small office) and I'm not sure how to do that. Can you help?

That can a bit harder. Lets start with the firewall.

1) What kind is it?
2) What is the model number?
3) What is the firmware revision on it?

How do you plan on controlling security for this?
