pcAnywhere black screen

I have a Windows NT host using pcAnywhere v8.01. I can connect using Windows 98, but when I try to connect using W2K I get the black screen with a cursor. I tried slowing down the modem speed, on both the remote and the host, all that did was give me garbage characters on the black screen. I've upgrated my W2K to use V10.5.1 to no avail. I've tried everything on the Symantec site, except for some of the display settings on the host, I don't want to mess up my clients machine. Anyone have some ideas for me?
