I apologize if this is a novice question. I use to be in IT but it's been many many years and I've searched for a possible cause or solution.

I'm running i5, Windows 8.1 with 12 GB of RAM. I bought to memory to increase that but once inserted, the PC doesn't do anything, not even a boot sequence. If I remove the purchased memory it runs fine.

Below are the specs of HP memory already installed.

Dual channel memory architecture
Four 240-pin DDR3 DIMM sockets
Supports DDR3 DIMMs
PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600)
Supports 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB or 8 GB DIMMs
Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems

I purchased ...

Atech Premium Memory
16gb KIT (2x8GB)
DDR3L 1600MHz PC3L - 12800
2Rx8 1 35V Non-ECC DIMM

Any ideas what I did wrong? Thanks.

I suspect because you purchased PC3L / DDR3L which is Low Voltage RAM, where as your original is not and your motherboard is not able to support 1.35V RAM.
