PC won't load printer

Hi everyone,
I helped a friend fix his computer by installing a new hard drive, and loading WIN XP on it with service pack 1.
He tried to install the printer, but now it asks him to pick out the printer from the list it shows him, and the printer he has is not on the list.
He has a Dell Dimension PC, and is trying to hook up an HP 2175 PSC (Printer, Scanner, Copier). The software loaded ok on the pc before he hooked up the printer.

Any ideas why it won't recognize the printer? He said he didn't have this problem before when he hooked it up. He also lost the main software for the printer, and I downloaded it from the internet off HP.com.

Make sure software drivers are installed, if usb then make sure usb is ok in device mgr. Try another usb cable if possible, if not, make sure all cables are connected well, make sure printer is turned on and green light. If on and no green light make sure you press whatever buttons are needed to get a green light, make sure paper is in.
Check HP website for the manual for this item and follow the install directions.
Make sure you indeed downloaded the correct drivers.
