I have a cust. with a PC Messaging that seems to have a problem with their password changing. I thought maybe someone had gotten in & changed it so I changed the admin password to something only she & I knew. She called today saying she could not access her messages so I dialed in and the admin password was set to the default & not what I had changed it to. They have had some power outages lately. Any ideas????
Thanks in advance

Is this ACS on a UPS? If not, I'd start with that. You can probably get an inexpensive UPS from Walmart for about $40. Any idea what version of PC Partner Messaging this is? Large or Small Card?

It's a bug. Log in as administrator, change the configuration to another number of mailboxes, change it back if you like. Problem gone.

That implies that we are dealing with a large version of the Partner Messaging PC Card, one that supports more than just 4 boxes (up to 16 boxes). Correct?

I am trying to find a holiday newsletter from Avaya. I could swear that they had a bulletin about this a year or two ago. Will let you know when I find it.

You really need to default it back to scratch.

Hal, changing the number of mailboxes doesn't default the auto attendant, selector codes, passwords, messsges, etc., so that's not really a full system default.

Phonelady, are you an Avaya Business Partner?

Yes TTTommy- I work for an Avaya Business Partner in So. CA
I retired from Avaya in 2002 with just under 31 years.
How about you??

This is a cut and paste from a christmas letter. Hope it helps.

minor glitch has been discovered when using PARTNER Voice Messaging R3, small or large, with PARTNER ACS systems.

Some PARTNER Voice Messaging (PVM) PC Cards can lose their programming when power to the PARTNER ACS is interrupted. There is no simple way to identify a PVM card that may exhibit this behavior.
These PVM PC cards contain flash memory with incorrect initial values. The incorrect values cause the cards to lose their memory when power is interrupted. The following programming step restores the flash memory to its correct initial value. This will preserve the memory should power to the card ever be interrupted.
Solution: Perform the following steps before programming ANY "Large" or "Small" PVM PC Card until further notice. This will preclude any PVM PC Card from losing its settings should a loss of power occur.
Note: If you have already programmed the PVM PC card, you should perform the steps below and then reprogram the PVM PC card.
1 - Log into the PVM PC card as the System Administrator.
2 - Enter the following sequence “9998925327”.
3 - You will hear the announcement "system will be returned to factory settings" followed shortly by "good-bye".
You can now proceed to program the PVM PC card with a customer's messaging configuration.

As usual I bow to your superior knowledge. That's the way I was told to take care of this problem, I'm also an Avaya Business Partner. Always has worked for me however after seeing the tech bulletin I'll default them from now on.

-Hal

Hi guys - yeah, I also work for a Business Partner. I was going to suggest that you contact me "back channel", rather than posting the default information publically. Now, everyone make sure that you change your system administrator's password!!
