PC VERY slow & svchost.exe running 99%

I have increasing times where my PC runs VERY slow and apps often lock up. During these slowdowns, Task Manager shows "svchost.exe" is running at 99% CPU usage. ZoneAlarm log shows svchost.exe is attempting to send packets to an IP address in Sweden! PC reboot resolves problem for a while. Coworker says it's spyware but I've run SpyBot, Ad-Aware SE, Ewido, & TrendMicro and found no culprits. ????

I would check for rootkits:

I would check for viruses:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

And, for malware:

spysweeper:

Update the defs and do a sweep.

Try those and post back.

should help you determine what is causing that instance of svchost.exe to run.
