Currently I connect my MacBook to my TV to watch streaming video movies from NetFlix on my Sony TV. The MacBook display is set to 1280x800, The Sony TV is rated at 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. I use a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter on the Mac side to connect a VGA cable to the Sony PC Input. The picture quality is just OK.

I'm planning to buy a new Dell laptop with a resolutioin of 1920x1080 which supports 1080p. It has an HDMI output that I would connect to my Sony TV HDMI input. Will this new setup give me better picture quality than my current MacBook setup?

Thanks, Bob

Even if it's just HD Ready you should be able to set the Dell to a 720p resolution which should be a lot better for video than you get at the moment, despite 720 pixels being less than 800.
