Hopefully someone can help me out with this one.

My PC will shut down (NOT crash...it goes through the shutdown sequence) when I attempt to defrag my C drive, run AdAware, or play games (DOS, Windows, or Flash).

Basically, the program I'm running will shut down, I'll sometimes get an Explorer error, and the "Windows is shutting down" screen will display for about half a second before the whole system shuts down. I can sometimes reboot right away, other times I have to wait an hour or two or the PC will just shut right down when it hits the desktop.

Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like an overheating problem, possibly in the power supply because you are putting more demand on it when you ramp up the graphics card to play a game. defrag and adaware put more load on the cpu causing that to heat up. either problem will trigger a shutdown as a safety measure. if your mainboard came with a temp monitoring program fire it up and see what the cpu and mainboard temps get to.
