Hi, got a lickle prob with a gateway P3...
Just reinstalled WIN98 se, fine until windows was loaded for the first time. The desktop showed, then the system shut down and re-booted!!
Loaded up again, then as desktop showed - rebooted again!
Now it is stuck in this loop and I cannot get it to stay on unless it's in safe mode?
Any suggestions??
Thanks

i think that every time new HW is gating installed
and that"s why win install that driver and get rebooted
or if u are using asus bord in bios there is one option
if cpu get heated up it will automaticaly shut down the system check out bios or format the c drive and re install the win

You say it boots in safe mode - so its almost certainly a driver causing problem. Try a step-by-step boot. When it asks Y/N to load the windows drivers, say Y to all but one (make a note). If ok (ie, it loads & doesn't reboot), try again, changing the one you don't load, until it reproduces your problem. That driver is a problem (may be more than one, which will make it more complicated, but hopefully one) - try using sfc to replace it (if its a windows system file), or look for updated version of driver otherwise (if you can identify which device, you could disable it in Device manager until you can sort it out).

PS. You may actually have a hardware problem.

Thanks Guys,
I will try and disable all devices - bringing them back in one at a time to isolate the problem....
Hopefully it's nothing more serious than drivers!
Cheers

If you have a modem installed then disconnect it from your pc. When you installed a new OS it has trouble sharing all the IRQ's in the beginning. A modem ( especially an internal one) often requires a full IRQ for itself and cannot share a IRQ with another device. Disconnect the modem and boot the system. After everything is installed connect the modem as last.
