Greetings all,

I have a custom built PC with these specs:

Intel Celeron D 335 2.80Ghz / 256K Cache / 533 FSB / Socket 478 / Processor

Seagate 120GB EIDE HD 7200/8MB/ATA-100

1GB of RAM

Just4PC 747 ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Front USB and 425Watt Power Supply - Black

120 GB Hard Drive

Anyways, I leave my PC on pretty much 24/7. Some mornings when I get up, the PC is completely locked and I have to reboot. This lock up rarely occurs when in use but usually when it's been sitting still.

It also tended to lock up when the screen saver kicked in.

Does this sound like it could be more hardware or software based. I did re-install my XP OS (did full format) and installed Service Pack 2 and it still does this.

Thanks for any advice!

chapelhillbilly,

Are there any clues in the Eventlog? Random lockups are usually the result of overheating and/or PSU problems. The PSU is always a suspect, as lower-quality ones die after a few years.

First step would be to clean everything & reseat all connectors & cards. To test for heat problems, open the case and use a room fan to blow into the case.

Best of luck.

Also check power options in control panel, a lot of pc's have trouble "waking up after standby"
