My PC will not boot up. It starts but then hangs and nothing happens. No blue screen, no windows, etc..

How would I know if my PC needs the harddrive replaced or if something else is wrong?

Is there a certain spot when watching the PC boot up where I can do recovery from the enclosed CD?

Thank you,
TomR100

Don't know if this will work on yours or not. But on the Dell computers you can check the hardrive. When the computer starts hold down the Alt & Ctl key and continue to click the D (character)button, this is a hard drive diagnostic procedure. I think they say at the logo screen but I start doing it at start up.

A lot of things can cause this, but I've seen a trashed MBR do it. Fortunately that's a software problem and you can fix it without spending any money. Get a DOS boot disk with FDISK.EXE on it. You should be able to download one from if you don't have one. Boot off the disk, then type FDISK /MBR and hit enter. After it finishes, pop the disk, reboot, and if the problem was the MBR, it should boot again.
