My cable modem went out and I will not have its replacement back from Motorola for at least a week. So I connected my pc to my regular phone jack and installed AOL. But now, if my PC is powered off (not on stand-by), it will power up upon me picking up any other phone in my house. I was in my bedroom and I wanted to see if there was dial-tone and I heard my PC boot up! I've heard of PC's doing this upon an incoming call but not like this. I really want to turn this feature off if possible.
Thanks for your time,

Look in your BIOS settings for "Wake on Ring", and disable it.

You may also want to check your phones and wiring in your home; too many phones drop the "Ringer Equivelancy Level" which means there may be too much resistance on the lines....

I suspect a phone jack is miswired, and tip and ring are reversed. This does not bother modern phones but may well create a false ring voltage for the PC.

Go to the BIOS of the workstation, and change the setting to Wake on Ring (or similar wording) to disabled.
