Hi,

I have Norton CE 7.5 installed on Windows 2000 Professional pc's.

Users complain of slow performace while compiling their programs using Perl and Visual studio 6. As a workaround i gave the exclusion for Visual studio program files and Perl directories. But the performace woes are still there.

If i stop NAV services then it becomes pretty fast.

Below is the config that the User pc is having

Processor: P4/2.8 GHZ
RAM: 512 MB DDR
HDD: 40 GB, (Enough space on C: drive and Virtual mem is 1200(min) and 1250(max)

Please help

Regards
Yunus

Upgrade from a long-dead product, that's your answer. 7.5 is Old and Busted.

Are you still running NT4? 'cause that's how old 7.5 is.

Hi

I want to do that, but IT budget doesnt allow us to upgrade to the newer version. I work in a small company who cry for each and every thing that i want to upgrade.

So for me i have to live with it as long as i am in this company. But cant anything be done so that it atleast understand that after giving exclusions it shouldnt scan that directory.

If I recall correctly, 7.5 did exclusions post-scan, which means that it would still scan the file, but would ignore results of it. So, basically, no, there's not a lot you can do about that.

You could always check to see whether the clients have an IRPStackSize value set in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters. If they do, get rid of it. That used to fix half the performance problems 7.5 ever had. If you're running antivirus software that old, chances are you may have other software old enough that it would set a value for it.

Hi,

Thanks i will check this one out and post the results of the outcome.

Only NAV is older version rest all other softwares are uptodate also Visual studio is ver 6, But i think that should be OK.

Also i forgot to ask one thing,

In my PC's the value of IRPStacksize in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters. is showing "6".

Shall i make it "0" or how it is.

Delete it entirely. That will let Windows manage it.

6 is WAY low, and a serious problem. If it were Windows NT 4, I would tell you to set it to 11, but Win2k uses something like 15 by default. A setting like 6 means that some program is REALLY old and thinks that 6 is increasing it.

Ok,

I will do that, and will post the outcome.

Thanks for help
