We have a problem here at our school with some computers shutting down correctly through windows 98. THe problem is mostly with Gateways. We run a Novell network. On most of these machines I have gone into MSConfig and make sure as little as possible is automatically running, and have disabled Gateway Goback, which always seems to cause problems. However, a lot of machines "hang up" in the shutdown phase and never actually shut down. Then you have to manually turn it off. So then when you start it back up, of course, it runs scandisk, etc. Any ideas on how to get them to shut down correctly?

I have a patch for the shutdown process. It will force the PC to shutdown all the way to the 'It is now ok to turn compuer off'. If you want this patch please email me at jeremy.leasure@fvsh.com

My suggestions are just that, suggestions.

Gateway also has this patch and you can also get it through the mirosoft updates. I had the same problem with my gateway, ( and no i have other systems), It should also be on your restore cd but you might call gateway and ask them to tell you where it is i cant remember.
