Hi i'm really stumped. I've used updated versions of Ad-Aware, Spybot-Search&destroy, Norton Anti-Virus, CWShreder
and haven't found anything.(all in safe mode)

When i come back to to the computer after leaving it alone , the "conect?/work offline"-internet-conection prompt-window has poped up. Something on my pc keeps trying to access the net. I've also notice really slow pauses while browsing. but no other symptoms, unless a virus can 'cause a "disk-write error".

Any idea on what to do?

i'm using win98SE

Hey,

Have a look at you processes running, see if you have Sygate.exe, new.exe and/oe sq.exe running.

They tend to access IRC chat sessions ect.

It could be a virus/spyware/etc. or it could be how a program(s) is set up. IE, Outlook, IM, etc can be set up to access the internet when they start and can be started when you computer boots. It may be a valid program trying to get updates.

Look carefully at what starts up on you computer and see if the programs have any options to auto connect to the internet.
