we have a windows 98 pc, after you click ok to logon to the NT4 server, it comes up saying 'Creating user profile, loading system policies'. the pc then hangs!. we can get into safe mode where i have removed and reinstalled the client for microsoft networks. this made no difference though.

Any ideas?

Is this true with each user who attempts to log in? Once in safe mode, Control Panel--> Users --> try switching the settings between all users have same settings, etc. . .

While you were trying the add/remove with MS Client, did you try add/remove NetBIOS, TCP/IP and re-install those as well?

Maybe I should have asked this first, but are you running policies? And (the most asked question in our world) what has changed since the last time you could log in successfully?

You could try making a bootlog.txt. If you see the starting windows9x tekst while booting press f8 and then shift+f8. Make a bootlog.txt and let the pc crash. Start in safe mode and look where the pc hanged by editing the c:\bootlog.txt file! Then you can see what the problem is.
