ppl, i need advice on thumb drive.

previously my pc (running on xp) could recognise my thumb drive by assigning it to G drive when i inserted it into the usb port. now i have installed a portable hard disk which had taken up the G drive, my pc no longer recognise the thumb drive when it is inserted.

interestingly, the "safely remove hardware" knows that it is a usb mass storage device, but yet no "drive" assigned.

any suggestion on getting about it?

thanx

Have you ever used TweakUI to disable drive letters?

Right-click on My Computer and go to Manage. Then right-click on the partition for either the portable hard disk or the thumb drive and assign a different drive letter to it. Then you should have both devices again.

many thanks to bcastner and chromecpu for responding.

bcastner, no i never used tweakUI on this pc.

ChromeCPU, when i right-click on the thumb drive, there is no option for assigning a drive letter. the screenshot is at

bcastner, i have a network drive that is mapped to H drive. thus i thought the H drive shown was referring to the network drive. apparently the thumbdrive chose to use H drive too.

after following chromecpu's instruction to change the drive letter, it works.

thanks again.
