I just bought a new case for my PC and transfered all the componenets over etc. It was workinging fine before but now there is one annoying quirk. Whenever i turn the PC on, for example after its been off all night it basically starts to load up then cuts out after 3 seconds.
Following this if i press the on button again it starts up normally. The only real difference between this case and my old case is it has more case fans connecting directly to the 3 pin connectors on the motherboard, could that be somehow adversly causing to much power to be drawn initially and cut it out, or there something wrong with the power switch connector?

I have a 550w PSU, and amd64 4000, 2 gig ram, 2 sli graphics cards, 1 cd rom and 1 hard drive. And now 4 case fans.

Any ideas?

Is that '550 Watt' PSU rated as SLI-Ready by nVidia? Those suckers take a lot of power. The caps could be holding some power thus lessening the second attempt's power reqs.

I was doubting it could be the switch, as it is doing its momentary-contact thing to start the rig, but if it stays pressed in it will shut the system down in 3 sec, like you describe.

If 100% of the hardware has stayed the same, there's your culprit. Cannibalize an old case for a switch and swap it out and see what happens. Also make sure the switch is connected to the right headers.
