i have an hp pavilion with a pentium 4. the heatsink fan blows
down onto the hs/cpu. there is also an 80mm fan on the back of the case sucking air in, through an air guide, and on the hs/fan.
i am thinking about getting a bigger case. it has two 80mm fan
spots in the back , 4 80mm fan spots in the front and 1 80mm fan on the side of the case.
what i want to know is , should i keep my original hp setup where the fans blow down onto the hs/cpu or try something new?

any suggestions?

HP added the directed air for a reason. Probably best if you maintained their guidance. Extras can be used to improve exhaust or flowthru.

Infact without the ducting it is better that the top rear fan/fans blow out (exhaust) with the one in the top also exhausting like a blow hole, whilst the front lowers sould always by drawing in and typically across the hard drive/drives.
You really don't need to use all the mounting points, personnaly I would just start with two, front lower and top rear, see how you go (maybe add the one at the top next if necessary)

Make sure the side fan does blow down on the CPU/fan. Otherwise, you will create a "dead" spot and the CPU will get no air!

Sorry misread the side fan as top, doh! yes blowing in! at the VGA card usually.
