I am working on a HP Compaq NX9010 notebook. I cannot get any pcmcia cards to work in this unit... It only has one slot, cards work in other machines, running WinXP Pro... Device manager shows pcmcia controller as working properly, but any card that is inserted is not recognized at all... The power light doesn't even come on (on cards with power lights). I found a setting that states the current power state of the slot is D0, but do not know how to change that, if necessary... Does anyone have any suggestions...

I look in the mirror and what do I see...

It sounds like a hardware defect at the PCMCIA I/II connector on the unit.

Time to call HP/Compaq for a repair ticket. It is very easy to carry these units in a bag with a PCMCIA adapter in the slot and bump the side of the bag. The connector is then toast. Never carry the laptop in a carry bag with a PCMCIA device that protrudes installed in the laptop. It does not take much of a bump to destroy the connector inside the laptop. Fortunately, they are usually inexpensive and easy to replace.
