Hello,

I have a Western Digital WD2500JB external HDD. My PC cannot detect it.
- The jumper setting is set on Master Drive (i.e. no jumper).
- The light on the enclosure is green, does not blink, shows no activity.
- Checked it in the Disk Management as well but it shows only original C:/ and D:/ .
- Tried connecting it on other PCs but it won't connect.

However, I can hear the HDD turning on but after about 10 sec, i hear 3 weired tapping/clicking sounds in a row and then it stops spinning.

Can anyone please help me!!

2 things come to mind.

1. The enclosure its in has a fault. Take it out and connect it directly to a PC and see if it will get recognized by the BIOS. If it does and doesn't make any weird sounds then the drive is probably o.k. But the enclosure is toast.

2. The drive itself is toast, again take it out from the enclosure and plug it in directly. If it doesn't get recognized then probably the drive is toast.

Just as a confirmation in scenario number 1. You can take a known functional Hard drive and stick it inside the enclosure, and see if it will be recognized. That will prove conclusively if the enclosure works or not.

----------------------------------
Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Some brands of enclosures (airlink some models) do not recognise a drive unless it is formatted.

Not a good sign. I would take it out of the case and install into a PC where it can have its own IDE channel, see if diskmgmt can see it.
