Trying to link up with my host office computer from my laptop remote from outside the office. In the office I have a Comcast Terayen cable modem networked with 7 computers. On the remote laptop I have a wireless connection trying to access through a Starbuck's or Panera Bread Hot Spot. Have tried the static Ip addresses from the host modem and the host computer but it will not recognize the address ("Unable to attach to specified device") and will not link-up. It works of course at the office network using the host IP address. Running XP Pro on all. Symantec only supports the transfer not the IP hook-up. Any help would be appreciated

!! I have the SAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EXACTT probleme. Please if anyone can help ... PLEASE

I have turned the firewall off when I was expermenting with PC anywhere. It seems to have something to do with the cable modem perhaps. Disconnected the router and tried the IP address to either the modem or the CPU with no luck. When I am out of towm now I have been using logmein.com. It goes through firewalls, routers, modems, etc. being internet based.
Thanks.

The problem you are having is due to NAT (Network Address
Translation). The router that links all your PC's to the
cable modem does NAT. That is how you get multiple PC's
on one assigned IP address. The machines behind the router
are on a non-routable IP range. Most likely 192.168.0.0
or 192.168.1.0 networks. You need to log into the router and
port forward from to the IP address of the PC running
pcanywhere. These are the PCAnywhere ports:
5631 and 5632. This only needs to be done on the "Host"
end of the connection.

Thanks for your help MRBSPC. It gave me another spark to get into it again. Chatted with Linksys on doing this, put in router settings and it worked!!!! But only for a day, but at least I am on the right track.
