I'm experiencing some difficulty with a "Bronze" Powerbook G3 restarting. Most recent change to the operating system is Panther.
Computer runs flawlessly when it boots up. When prompted to restart, it cycles down, screen goes black, computer "bong" sounds out, but then nothing happens. You can hear a humming from what appears to be the hard drive, but it will just hang there forever.
I've tried resetting the Power Manager by holding the reset button on the back panel. After doing this the computer will start up and run great until the next time that it is prompted to start up. I've also tried resetting the PMU, but to no avail.
I've read a few threads on a low capacity battery causing chaos with the Power Manager and am attempting to replace the current battery which can't hold a charge for more than 5 minutes.
Any insights or suggestions that you might have would be appreciated. Thanks for any and all help!
