Hi all,

I'd like to find out how the programming community feels about different payment options when possibly accepting a new project.

What are the thoughts on a recurring income from the software project? as opposed to paying salary, or project based, with cash upfront or smoe now some later.

I am inquiring because I have a project in VC++ that is roughly 40-50% complete and is currently working. Though I need it to be finished and have next to no cash available to pay for it's completion right now. I'm trying to find out what other alternatives may be accepted.

Has anyone heard of programmer's taking a percentage, say 20-30% of the sales, ongoing? Any thoughts or suggestions?

thanks in advance

How about Project Management section of the Tek-tips Forums?..

It is not unheard of.

When selling software, you negotiate with the customer what the costs will be.

Here are some examples:

Pay for 1 off usage. I own the code. You want it again, you pay the same amount again.

Pay for the source code. It is all yours. Do with as you please.

Pay for the .exe You own the exe, I own the source. You want it changed you pay me.

Rent the .exe I own the exe, but you sell it, and everytime you sell I take a cut.
