Howdy folks,

This is not a real POS question, but POS sometimes has payroll/payclock functions embedded. If I'm in the wrong forum please feel free to gab me by the shoulders and point me in the right direction.

My small business, with 50-75 employees, needs to upgrade our current payclock system, a Lathem swipe-card terminal connected via serial to a client PC with Payclock 2006 running on it.

Our goal is to get an app that runs on the server (SBS2003SP1) and accompanying hardware that has either a finger-swipe reader or magnetic card (which is better?) and connects to the server via USB or CAT5.

This terminal will live outdoors and needs to be extremely tough. Our workers are outdoor workers and their cards (and fingers) get filthy. The PC-100 swipe-reader has worked miraculously well over the last nine years, never once going down. Yet, the owner wants to upgrade despite my admonition that "if it ain't broke don't fix it"...

So, can anyone recommend a good, sturdy terminal/software combo, along with a brief summation of card-swipe vs. finger-swipe? We use QuickBooks for our accounting and even though Payclock 2006 can integrate with QB, we have not been using that feature. Thanks as always.

Tony
