Hi there

Is anybody out there know how to restore a content a single directory among others from tape using pax or tar ?
basically, i have 10 directories backed up on tape using tar command , i want to restore only one of them to disk.
I tried tar xvf /dev/rmt/??? dir-1 it dint work !

I heard about tax -rv command but never used it to recover files/dirs from tape, any help would very much apreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Take a look how the directories are saved using tar tvf /dev/rmt/???, then use this a guide in restoring the directory. In our case it would be tar xvf /dev/rmt/???? ./dir-1

the ./dir-1 being a relative restore rather than an absolute one. Note that in the case of a relative restore you need to be in the directory above ./dir-1 to restore files to it. HTH.
