Pause DVD in laptop

I use WinDVD to play a DVD disc for a lecture. I need to pause for long lengths of time and then start playing again. Trouble is that after pausing for more than about 5 seconds the disc stops spinning and takes nearly 5 seconds to start playing again and audio will stutter. Playing from pause while the disc still spins there is no problem.
Is there anything I can adjust to keep the disc spinning indefinitely when paused?

Under the energy options, you may have to set the environment from Laptop to Desktop (do this only if you have the power supply attached), under the laptop setting drives are set to turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity...

and if that does not work, then I may suggest you try using a VirtualCD where you can mount DVD images and play those with WinDVD... e.g. MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM

Thanks; the energy setting seems the most logical thing to change. Unfortunately, this Acer laptop doesn't have a 'Desktop' setting. There is an Acer power management system that comes up when investigating 'power options' in control panel - the usual windows power panel does not show. Perhaps I need to disable the acer control in the bios? Your 'virtual CD' idea would be an alternative but would consume too much space.

To answer my own question - there is no option to overide any Acer management systems in the bios. I have tried all power sttings available but nothing will prevent the disc stopping after a few seconds. Any other ideas please?
