Assuming Report Studio, you can play with the number format attributes (for example, Use Thousands Separator=Yes, separator='-', group size 4 and secondary group size 3 will yield the format NNN-NNN-NNNN), but I think you will be better off converting to text and substringing/concatenating as suggested in another forum.
