I am trying to add some Security patches to a few Win 2k PC's. And I find that the Window's Update fails. I download the individual patch and run it. The error that pops back is that I need to be 'Administrator'. But I already am. The only thing that worked is to drop out of the domain into a workgroup and run the patches. It then worked.

Any ideas on why some patches are acting like that? They are KB840315, KB842526, KB841873, KB841872, KB839645.

Ensure you are using an account from your domain that is linked to the "Administrators" local group on the machine. You should not need to be a domain admin, the important part is being a local admin. If you login local only you should get the same results as dropping it out of the domain.

If this doesn't help then start looking at your groups and policies applied by the domain. You might have some non-standard restrictions on software being pushed by a policy.
