Patch stops legitimate user links

For some months, I've been running a download model from

uploading results from time to time. Suddenly the links fail, and I learn

"If you have patched your system with the new Microsoft Internet Explorer Security Patch (IE Update KB832894) it will not allow the climateprediction.net client to upload or 'trickle' results. You will get an Error # 0 on your connection test even if you are on the Internet." (See

Shouldn't the world's biggest and richest software company have done some proper testing before encouraging people to patch yet again?
