This seems absurd to me.

I am using Outlook 2003. If I want to email someone some text, I will generally copy the text, click up a New email and paste. Doesn't work, quite blank. It seems that starting a new email is actually clearing the clipboard.

Can I stop this silliness? Is it something to do with the awful Office Clipboard thing that I also can't get rid of.

Why can't I just do Ctrl C, Ctrl V and it works like it has for ever basically?

Sounds a bit unusual. Are you copying from a specific application when it results in this? Is it another office app?

Try typing some text in notepad and copying/pasting into a new email, and vice versa. Find out if it's Outlook's clipboard that's a bit screwey, offices, your keys, etc. Narrow it down a bit more for us if you can.

OK

1) I write something in notepad and ctrl C it. I start a new message in Outlook and ctrl V the text in. Nothing happens, back to notepad and ctrl V. Again nothing. Ergo, Outlook has, for some demented reason, cleared the clipboard when the new email is started.

Do it the other way round, i.e. start new email, ctrl C, ctrl V and it works.

2) Using the Office Clipboard. I select Office Clipboard from Outlook. Ctrl C some text from Notepad and it appears on the Office Clipboard. Start a new email message and double click the clipboard text (which is inconveniently on the Outlook form and not the new email form). It gets pasted to the email message. This is ok, if clunky, but unfortunately it wipes all the text that is already in the message including my signature.

This seems to be specific to me, or at least others in the office do not have the problem.

Check your email settings are you using Rich Text or HTML? Do the test again switching to the setting you haven't tried do you get the same issue? Also test using word as the email editor and then without the email editor, can you post what happens?

Using html and Word as editor. Changing settings and not using word makes no difference.

Hi petermeachem. I am experiencing the exact same problem. Did you manage to resolve this?

Interestingly, you can run clipbrd.exe from windows system folder, and watch as the clipboard contents disappear as you start a new message. Infuriating!

This is still irritating. I've just had a look round the office and there doesn't seem to be any correlation with things like service packs.
On afflicted pc's when a new message is created three icons appear in the Office Clipboard thing, an envelope with a green tick, one with a red no entry and a paper clip with a red no entry.

I would love to fix this if anyone has a clue what is up, it is really annoying

Fixed it. Didn't take long. The common point was that it didn't work on Acer desktops which have some Acer security thing. This adds another toolbar to a new message and the icons for the toolbar end up on the clipboard for some reason.
I've uninstalled all the Acer security stuff and don't feel any less safe.
