Newly installed illus. 9.0.1 on windows xp. Anything put on the clipboard from another application doesn't show up on the illustrator art board when using paste in the edit menu. The paste option is active and copy/paste works with the elements created with the illustrator program.

Specifically tried from Quick Cad, but it also fails with paint and word pad copies to the clipboard. The clipboard works fine if I copy from illustrator and paste into paint.

Should it be working? Is there something in preferences I need to check? I've tried reinstalling with no joy.
This all worked fine with windows ME using the same programs. Thanks for any help! -George

I've got Illustrator CS, and copy & paste seems to work on the quick test I just did. I tried copying text from WordPad, and clip art from Word. Maybe it's a problem that's been sorted out in recent versions.

What type of data are you copying? Have you tried starting with just plain text?

Plain text from Notepad does copy and paste ok.
I did accidently find out that any object on a web page (including this text) will copy and paste ok into illus.
There's also a program compatibility wizard on XP but that didn't help. It's looking like I need to look at the microsoft forums for clues. If anyone is running Illus 9.0.1 on XP please let me know if it works for you.
Thanks again -George.

Did you go to Adobe's site and look for updates to Ill 9 for XP. 9 predates XP.

I did check out the adobe site but wasn't able to locate an xp upgrade and the one upgrade available didn't affect the problem. For some reason the illustrator forum page over there doesn't allow for adding a new topic so I was gald to find this site. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my earlier post.

Try saving your stuff from other apps into a format that Ill understands. Something like a cad app is not initially in an ILL format. Try saving as an eps or tiff or whatever and using the Place command. eps is probably the best for reworking.

Do the same thing with text or word processing docs. Just save and Place. Ill will import Word docs, and probably some other word processing docs. Text is no problem at all.
