Hello my name is Jim Cain and I have a very complex problem that will sound pretty crazy to you, but I assure you that this is no hoax. My son Ryan pass away on 9/18/2000, he was 26 years old. He worked for a company here in the Sacramento area call Play.com. After he pass away I had the terrible task of cleaning out his house. I now have two computers that he had with debain linux operating systems. I can not get into the system because of passwords. scrumby login: and password. He was using one of the computers as a gateway I am told.
He was teaching a friend linux and he will try and help but he's not sure if he knows enough. I do know a little about computers
and have friends who also know, but no one knows Linux. If you have any suggestions I would really be grateful to you or anyone that you may know. I know I could probably have a professional programmer do it but I don't want strangers looking around my son's
computer. I know this my sound pretty crazy but please if you have any information I would appreciate it..

Thank you for any help you can give!!!

hello evation,

if u have got to "scrumby login:" prompt then there r bios passwds. u have to get root login now. c if u have a boot diskette. if available then insert and boot in single mode. "linux single" on "lilo: " prompt. then type "passwd" and change the passwords.

following is simply personal opinion and please donot feel offended.
{

Now unless there is something important on the system that you want to retrieve, forget about getting the login and simply format the data and install something you like.

I am sure if he didn't share the passwords with others b4, then he never intended others to look at his personal files.
}
