Passwords in IIS5

I have set up and IIS5 server on Windows 2000 Server, the server is part of a Windows NT4 Domain.

In the security option for the virtual directory, I have set to use Basic Authenticication, and not to allow annoymous.

When IE visits the page, it prompts for a user and password, but the domain it wants it for is a local logon, and not a domain logon.

Little help...

I think that you have to tag the user name with the domaini.e domain\username in the user name box on the login prompt. At least this is how it works in my current setup.

The dialog doesnt allow you to enter a domain in the usual format, as the logon box already specifys a domain, and the one thats being specified is the local machine not the domain the machine is part of.

Try using the edit button beside the basic authentication option. Specify the domain that you wish ther. Are you sure that the server has been brought into the domain?

Thanks for your help so far

The server is part of the domain, as it can access other domain resources, and if you click on the edit button, the domain name is entered correctly.

In the case of the loacl machine, is it the IIS Server, or the machine thatthe browser is on?
