I have created an inhouse Intranet using Dreamweaver. I would like to put a systems page in there but I would liek to be the only one with access. How do I go about setting p a webpage that when selected prompts the visiter for a password.

Thankyou

Here's a great, simple way: Cheers,
Jim

Hi,

WARNING!!!! The applet is not secure at all..

I just downloaded and tried this and you will be ok as long as none of your visitors has ever used or seen this script before or anybody trying to access the page has a tiny bit of common sense.

To get access, all your visitors need to do is enter
into their browser and there is your password for all to see!!

If you want real security then the only way to go would be .htaccess

If you need help with this just ask

Hope this helps Wullie

Talking about an "in house intranet", the method I mentioned would work just fine. The password.txt file can be hidden.
Obviously, on the internet, this is not near secure enough. Cheers,
Jim

Silly me!!

That will teach me for not reading a post fully!!

Still, you could use htaccess, it`s not hard to use and would take the same time to set up as the applet...

Sorry about that :~/

Hope this helps Wullie

How do you setup htaccess?
I am trying to create a "members only" area. I think I want to use an Access database containing user names and passwords.

Hi mickey,

I`ve not got much time to explain just now so I will give you a url to check out that hopefully will answer any questions.

I am trying out some different and also easier ways to make the files and I have recruited some local hackers who are currently testing them for security, so until then...

If you need any more help, just ask

Hope this helps Wullie
