Password Sync between separate trees

Is there a way when users have accounts on separate trees to to sync the passwords? When the users password expires, it will change it on one tree and the NT servers, but nt on the other Novell Tree. Is there a way to make sure that all tree with the same users change passwords together. We are using Win 95, 98, NT, and 2000, also an XP box. Please help on this issue. I have been told this can not be done, so the only way is to have the second tree password manually changed by the Administrator. This does not seem correct to me.

Thank you in Advance

On NT and above, you should be able to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and choose the Change Password option. Here you can select which resources password you wish to change. As long as both trees and the local user account are selected, you can sync the passwords that way. Don't know about 95/98 though. -----------------------------------------------------

Thelad,

I understand this. That works well as long as the user knows to go change the password. What we do is force a password change and it just comes up and tells them they have to change the password. Does not give them the option at that time to make this change on thier own. All the machines that this situation is on are NT/2000 boxes so that is a slight plus. My question is when the user is forced to change the password it does only two thirds of the changes. Then the user has to tell someone in MIS thier new password so we manually have to change it for them in that other tree. As you can tell from my title I'm a programmer, so I'm not really up on the details of some of these things. Our Net Admin insist that there is NO way this can be done. I have trouble believing this. The only reason I'm involved is because I hav to fix it before he comes in.

Thank you again and hope someone can give me whatever settings need to be adjusted to make this annoying problem go away. The Net Admin does not see it as a problem, because he does not have to deal with it. It is frustrating to me and the end users. If you can answer this, I have another dozen issues that need resolving that we are told is just the way it is. Being a programmer I do not except this as a solution, I would be embarrssed to put programs out that look like this.

You can do it, but it is not easy. The following TID explains how to configure password synchronisation between multiple eDirectory trees (you have to be running eDirectory):

Thank you very much.

I will get this information passed on so that this problem can be corrected. I'll be back with more like this.

Thank you again
