password setup 1

Just got a free ibm thinkpad 750c.works and has win3.11 on it.My question is how do i install a password on it?also might be usful to mention its also got calmira xp installed.Sorry for my ignorance ,new to this op system.Also is there a way to find out exactly what hardware is installed on computer without taking it apart?Thanks for any help.
