Hi does anyone know how to recover logi passwords from the option 11/61/81 etc ( i know how to through pdt ) just wonderd if there was a Program to do this ????
Thanks

Yes, but that is not the purpose of this forum. No one here will help you on that point. Sorry...!!!

so yes u can but where do i find it if u cant tell me....
perhaps a lead in the right direction doin the hex is a pain plus it dosent cover every softwarwe release.

attend Nortel advance debug class and they'll show you how...

You can print them in 22

ld 22
req=prt
type=pwd
then enter your 2nd level password.

you can recover passwords in pdt, there is no other way.. do not try it if you haven't been to school.. it's about regedit, except a lot eaiser to blow away way to many of the wronge files.. and unlike mr gates, your box does not have a safety net, no undelete, no are you sure...

Then if u can do this via pdt in a registry entry can u lead me in the right direction wher to start looking. I have plenty of spare scc cards to play with and alot of time on my hands to work through it.
Thanks

Also i heard there was a aplication that you run to give you admin1 / admin2 password via a backup of the config via pdt if the passwords were not avalible.?

All this business about password cracking is ok if you have a reason to do it. However it's not much use at Version 4.5!. It can't be done, only a change or reset function can be done at that software level.
There are ways & means of doing other releases, but as has already stated on this & previous threads, it's not something that we discuss on this forum. Quite a number of us work on these systems at a advance level. We have a duty to protect our customers & also Nortel from any misuse.
I'd prefer it, if I could advise tek-tip members of ways to improve the security of their systems from unauthorised access than give out any ideas that could cause a breach of security!.

What I have been doing - and it will ultimately work - is to start with "a", then "b" and so on, then "aa", "ab"

When you get to "azzzzzzzzz" you can go back to "a1", "a2" through "a999999999" = which is a hude milestone because you'r done with the A's

"b", "ba", "bc" ....

I lost a password to a system in 1984. I'd have recovered it by now if the Best Buy computer store would stock more keyboards.

Firebird i hear whot u are saying but if a customer hasnt got the password due to previous maintainers then it leaves them with one option Nortel...unless you have remote access or are on site then i cant c a security issue unless your hacking the system to do other means.....which then leads back one need remote access. Two need to be logged onto tty port.
Firebird your answere seems more from a Nortel House than a maintance point of view.

To retrieve a password, i only need to know which rls is running and if it's a large or small system.
Don't need to wait 22 years to retieve it, maybe 22 seconds...

Nortel support team can retrieve it for you if you pay for that help.

As Dlesap has confirmed, it does not take long to recover any passwords if you have the right programs to use. In my job, I work on many different software versions & I have a requirement at times, to obtain access on systems that have either have old software levels, been in storage for a number of years, or have come from a unknown source.
I have no idea what Nortel charges these days, but there should be safeguards put in place to stop people causing damage to systems. I'm sure that Scrumpy73 is a responsible engineer who has a genuine need for access to the main passwords, but how do we know that is the case?. I could end up helping somebody out who is..

A) Not authorised to work on the system

B) Breaches any current Mntce contract

C) Would use the knowledge to change the current passwords or remove important data.

Sorry to be a kill joy, but at the end of the day, I have no idea who you are?.

goto Nortel or pay someone in the knowledge to get it for you, its the only way im affraid. A little bit fo info reaches the wrong hands causes a lot of trouble.

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder
