Hi Everyone,

Does anybody know how you can recover a lost Manager password on a BayStack 450T switch? I only have user access at present as Manager access password has been lost.

Many thanks,

D

gunfighter claims this works on early 350s and 450s
Try This,
Power off , wait about 30 seconds, Power on...
Within 15 seconds type : NetICs<cr>
You will then be in enable mode... You should be able to retrieve the password from the security menu.

(that is an eye in NetICs not an ell)

dtjsubs offers this for the 450s: This is what I have done in the past. Place the switch (with the unknown password) in a stack with a Switch You DO have the password for, Making the 'known password switch' the 'master' (this controlled by a selector on the cascade module). Then reset the whole stack to Default Settings, this will remove the unknown password and all your config also! So you will have to rebuild your Config.

Frid4y says "The "new" versions I believe require the same thing as the 450 switches, which is call tech support and give them your MAC address for them to create a password."

Hope one of the first two works for you so you don't have to go to Nortel, if not, it is a fee service ($300)

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

As many know the NetICs password does not work on newer models. Putting the problem switch in a stack will not work either if the firmware and software are not the same. The only way that I found, was to contact Nortel. The first person you get to tells you that it will be $300.00 an hour with a 2-hour minimum. DON'T DO IT. Ask them to transfer you to contracts and believe it or not you can get support on your switch (unlimited phone, and software upgrades) for only $50.00. I could not believe it. I had given up hope. It only took about 30 minutes for them to set the whole thing up. Give Adrianne Olivares at 831.440.4334 and she will fix you up.

Damn the Man!

If you firmwar and software matches, you can add it to an existing stack (as a slave), you can then reset it to defaults.

Depending on the code revision, NetICs may not work.

Assuming you have SNMP set up and remember the community name for r/w access, try this:

Use JDM (Java Device Mangager)...to download a new config file to it. That *might* wipe out the password.

This is a bug that used to exisit in certain versions of code. Good luck...
