Password protection 1

Hi how do I enable user authetication. I am using apache on windows.

I would like

http://www.foo.com/test/

to be protected with user name test password test.

I have read I had to enable htaccess but I am unsure how to create the file that containts the enrypted password. Do I have to do anything to the conf file.

To create the file, use the htpasswd utility that came with Apache.

There are some on-line versions too, Google knows where :

In the httpd.conf you need this directives :

[gray]# to enable the use of authentication in per-directory config files[/gray]
AllowOverride AuthConfig
[gray]# or[/gray]
AllowOverride All

[gray]# the name of per-directory config files[/gray]
AccessFileName .htaccess
