Running Apache 1.3.24, I can't seem to get a link to a password-protected Powerpoint file to open up in Powerpoint XP. It does work for Powerpoint 2000, and it does work with Powerpoint XP in a non-password protected directory.

Has anyone run into this before, or does anyone have any suggestions for correcting this?

Thanks,
Sean

PowerPoint is not a web browser. It is an Office application. Thus you probably can't count on it supporting authentication or popping up a dialog on the user's screen to ask for a username and password. Even if it worked in Powerpoint 2000.

I think what you have to do is have a link on a website to the powerpoint file, then have the users click on the link or right-click and do Save Target As...

Yeah, I understand that, but starting within Office 2000, the programs seem to have integrated themselves into Internet Explorer, and Word and Excel seem to work fine with this setup. I would think this is a bug on Microsoft's part, which of course is not shocking news. But I was mostly wondering if anyone else had run into the problem before and how it was handled.
