We have a Windows 2000 network. We use WINS and DNS name resolution. This problem has just started recently and we cannot pinpoint what change was made that could have caused the problem.
Our users have a login script that maps network drives. This is the problem: When users open the notes program, the prompt for their user id password takes minutes to appear.
When we change the drive mapping for the location of the users id file from a drive name(ex. \\server2\jdoe) to an IP address the problem is stopped and the password prompt is displayed immediately after opening notes.
When testing name resolution with the command prompt there is no problems and the server names are resolved in a timely fashion.
We need to change the drive mappings back to using server names, because a lot of users are confused about the location of their personal mapped drive because the name is simply an ip address. Lotus notes is the only program that is having a problem with the drive mapping. Any suggestions?
