password for listener

Hi.
I am trying to set the password for listener administration. I am stuck with a problem which is I think because I am making a mistake somewhere. The problem is if put the following parameterPASSWORDS_LISTENER = 20A22647832FB454 # "foobar"
SAVE_CONFIG_ON_STOP_LISTENER = ON
While stopping I get TNS-1169 does not recognize password error, but it doesnot prompt for password!!
If I remove these parameters, and use LSNRCTL for setting password and save the configuration, no error , but it says "no changes to save"

Hope someone can help me out of this!

To ensure that your encrypted password is correct, first change it some u want.

LSNRCTL>change_password

It will ask for old password, enter foobar
then new password, enter <newpassword>

It will get password changes successfully.

Before giving stop command ALWAYS use

LSNRCTL>set password
ask for new password, enter <newpassword> which u set earlier.
then give the stop command

LSNRCTL>stop
