I use SysconW for most of my NetWare admin work. One annoying thing with SysconW, and the original DOS Syscon, I think, is that whenever I, the admin, change a user's password, the account's password is set to expire in 01/15/1985 or some date in 1985. This means whenever I change a password I would have to reset the expiration date to 90 days from the date of the change. Is there a fix, other than upgrading to NW4 or above?

Sounds like a Y2K issue to me. Are you running NW 3.2? As I recall, 3.11 and 3.12 were not fully compliant... Bill

Don't know if it's a Y2K or not, but I found the solution. In the set of utilities called JRBUtils, I found SETPWORD and SETREST that when used together is just what I need. JRBUtils can be found at

SETPWORD is a replacement for NetWare's SETPASS command and has several options, although I couldn't get them to work. With SETPWORD, I still had the 1985 reset but at least it let me, as a supervisor, reset someone else's password in a batch mode or at the command line. After running SETPWORD, I would use SETREST (SET RESTriction) to set the password expiration date to be 90 days from today.

Example:

SETPWORD server01/user01 secretpassword
SETREST server01/user01 ped = today+90

where

server01 is the name of the server
user01 is the name of the user
secretpassword is the password
ped is the option to specify Password Expiration Date
today is a constant translating to whatever today's date is

Thanks for the info on the utils. I'll check them out... Bill
